Education and TrainingAs an ESL teacher, you will need to have a basic teaching certification and a specialized ESL certification. This means that most ESL teachers have a bachelor's degree. Some people have a bachelor's from a ESL program or another language and then add on the certification. Expected SalaryPrivate tutor salaries are hard to estimate because they vary by location but an ESL teacher in a school would make about the same as other teachers. The salaries start of at around $26,000 and $36,000 a year and can grow up to over $70,000 a year, with experience and further education and training.
