Online Architecture School Programs

An accredited online architecture school and drafting college utilizes more computerized programs than ever before. This is called computer aided drafting (CAD), and it is a must for architects and drafters today.

Architects have a particularly demanding job that requires them to be meticulous, precise, and detail oriented. Drafters design everything from small rivets to entire machines to large vehicles. Architecture schools are a demanding educational experience. Students can earn a Diploma in Drafting with AutoCAD or degrees in engineering at traditional four-year colleges and then continue with post-secondary degrees at technical training schools. You can also train online for civil architecture and technical drafting in the military.

Architecture and Drafting Education and Training

Licensing requirements for architectural drafting colleges include a professional degree in architecture, and practical training or internship. You also have to pass all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) for an architectural license. The professional degree in architecture will take you about five years at an accredited and licensed college with has the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) approval. Professional internships for the architectural degree are often 3-year term, and you learn about Drafting with AutoCAD by working in firm as an assistant to licensed architects. Drafters gain certification through technical training at career colleges or community colleges.

After completing a 2-year associate degree program, you can gain employment as a drafter or continue their education in a related field at 4-year colleges, where they would enter an engineering major. Most major universities don't have drafting schools. Courses include site planning, construction surveying, building systems drafting, technical writing, and estimating.

Architecture and Drafting Careers

The job of an architect is to:

  • Discuss the objectives, requirements, and budget of a building project
  • Provide various pre-design services including conducting feasibility studies and environmental impact studies, selecting building sites, and specifying the requirements the design should meet
  • Prepare blueprints and drawings and present ideas for clients to review
  • Develop final construction plans which depict building's appearance
  • Make necessary changes throughout the building planning process
  • Provide details for building construction
  • Follow building codes, zoning laws, fire regulations, and other city, county, or state ordinances

Drafters who gradate from architecture school use Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) systems to prepare drawings to prepare technical drawings and plans, that are used to build many things for example manufactured products, electrical appliances, toys, industrial machinery, spacecraft, homes, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

With a career in architecture or drafting your salary can range as follows:

Median: $39,100 - $60,300

High: $65,500 - $99,800

Salary Range: $36,280 - $99,800

Job demand for for those who have graduated from architecture schools in the United States is on an average rise until the year 2014. Their workload is closely associated with the construction industry. Workload goes up as the demand for residential and commercial space increases. Job demand for drafters will progress slower than average, due to a decline in the manufacturing industries but drafters will be able to fill a growing niche by training to perform similar duties as civil engineers and architects. This can be done through adding another two years of technical education at an accredited drafting and architecture school.
