Increasingly, people are turning such holistic treatments as alternatives to traditional medicines and surgeries, with a view to harnessing positive energies to help treat ailments. Aromatherapy Training and Education

Currently, there are no licensing requirements, which is regulated or demanded for practice in the United States. However, it is advisable that adequate training is sought. Having completed one of the aromatherapy courses that are offered at various schools, career prospects are significantly enhanced.

Adequately trained, entry into the career and the the prospects for boosting attractiveness to clients and employers is increased. To find suitable aromatherapy courses, it is best to check with The National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA). This is a not for profit organization which aims to give professional guidance to those seeking a career in aromatherapy.

Organized by a committee of trained professionals, the NAHA has created guidelines which it feels to be adhered to, and can give advice on suitable training programs and standards. It is possible to study onsite at a school, or through distance learning courses, though the chosen school should be researched carefully and questions asked of those running the course, previous students, and practicing aromatherapist wherever possible.

Aromatherapy classes will comprise studies in essential oils and their properties and how best these should be administered in practice. Courses will also study how essential oils can be blended together in different ways to produce different results, and how to research which blends are likely to work best together.

Aromatherapy registration test exams take place twice a year, at various locations throughout the US. In order to qualify for examination, it is necessary to have completed a one year program at Level 2 in aromatherapy. The school where this has been studied needs to be in line with NAHA guidelines and standards.

However, there can increasingly be found in state funded medical centers and spas. Having an understanding of other holistic practices and how these can work together with aromatherapy could be useful.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

A first position after successful completion of aromatherapy classes can see practitioners earn approximately $15,000 to $20,000 a year. However, this baseline will increase as more experience and reputation is gained. Many aromatherapists go on to start their own private practices, or offer at home services, which can attract significantly higher rates than being connected to a third party practice. Many do however taking addition aromatherapy courses to keep current in their profession.
