Auditing Education and Training

A bachelors auditing degree in this field teaches students to carefully analyze financial records (including inventory records, payroll records and accounting records) and compare them to broker, creditors and banks. Students are also taught the latest software applications for monitoring finances in real time, summarizing transactions and formatting financial records and reports.

The curriculum for a Bachelors auditing program will include Auditing, Federal Income tax, Business Law, Principals of Finance, Advanced Financial Management and Quantitative Methods and Analysis courses along with advanced mathematics and accounting courses.

These auditing degree courses prepare graduates to become employed as auditors for governmental agencies or as internal professionals for organizations and businesses. Auditors working for government agencies are generally involved in tax law enforcement and tax collection. Internal professionals ensure that organizations and businesses operate at highest efficiency while in compliance with government regulations.

Studies show that the higher the level of education the higher the expected earnings for auditors. Therefore, those with a masters diploma (Masters of Business Administration with an Internal Specialization) or a PhD (in Accounting with Auditor Concentration) will earn more than an auditor with a bachelors auditing degree.

To earn an advanced diploma in auditing, students study courses such as strategic cost management, information systems audit and control, accounting for e-commerce and professional internal auditing; all designed to enhance the students knowledge of systematic approaches to control systems and risk management.

Auditing Careers

Those who graduate with an auditing in this field will enjoy multiple career options. They can choose from such possible careers as in fields of government, internal, Chief Information Officer and careers with private firms and universities.

If you are detail oriented and good with numbers, an auditing degree may be the right educational choice for you. It is a growth field with a bright future. Becoming an auditor will afford you the opportunity to make a good living with a promising, stable future.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

In 2009 the average salary of auditors was $72,000 per year according to various sources. According to recent reports, the salary range for auditors with a bachelors degree (Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting) is $42,249-$62,105. For those with an MBS (Master of Business Administration) the range is $42,240-$71,732.

Between 2008 and 2018 it is projected that auditing career opportunities will show quicker growth than other sectors. The main reason for this optimistic projection is that there are many new regulations and financial laws being enforced on corporate and business agencies. Due to this increased level of accountability, the demand for auditors will continue to increase over the next few years making accounting and auditing degree programs increasingly important.
