In construction school there are many positions available in the construction field and some only require a high school education or GED. Others require an education for advancement and for more specialized fields, more education and training is also required. You can however expect to get on-the-job training once you join a new job.

Construction Careers

You can chose from many construction careers with construction school credentials, for example Construction Management, welding and machine trade, carpentry, and plumbing. Welding program specializations in shop welding and out-of-position welding, underwater welding, and welding operator. Due to a high demand and low supply of competent welders, careers in welding have potentially good salaries.

Construction management deals with the administrative, supervisory, and technical design elements of the construction industry. You would be responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction. Construction Managers work directly with contractors and laborers and they should have skills in interpersonal and professional communication, and labor-relation and administrative talents. Construction careers typically involve a certificate or associate degree, but demand is increasing for Bachelor and Master Degree qualifications.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

After you complete your selected instruction course, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, earnings in construction are higher than the average for all industries. You can expect to earn about $20.00 an hour if you are not a supervisor in construction careers. Higher-skilled trade workers, such as electricians and plumbers, get paid more than less-skilled trade workers, laborers and helpers but the earnings also vary by education, experience, and the type of work. You can expect to make anywhere from $12.00 to $40.00/hour.

According to the United States Department of Labor, job opportunities are expected to be excellent in the construction industry - especially for skilled trade workers - due to the large number of retirements of these workers anticipated over the next decade, as well as fewer people with the right education or experience entering the skilled trades from construction school.
