COLLEGES AND CAREERS

Online Costume Design School Programs

Career choices for people who have attended costume design school include working in fashion design, fashion management, fashion merchandising, and fashion marketing, as well as careers in the performing arts.

By obtaining a costume design degree from an accredited costume design school, students will be given the ability to enter into the exciting world of fashion. Students will be given the ability to help create wide arrays of suits, dresses, shoes, and other types of clothing and accessories that will be adorned by the masses. Students will have the ability to choose the type of program that they would like to take, and later on decide upon the type of career that they wish to pursue. In order to enter into the fashion design business, designers are mandated to obtain either an associate’s degree or a bachelor's degree in this line of study. Some designers choose to combine their traditional coursework together with business and marketing classes so they can pursue more lucrative career choices upon graduating from a costume design school.

Costume Design Education and Training

Some of the costume design classes that students will need to take include courses that go over colors, textiles, pattern making, sewing and tailoring as well as the history of fashion. There are additional computer programs that students will be mandated to learn in order to stay on track with this consistently flourishing industry.

In order to be qualified for a job as fashion designer, students are mandated to have a keen eye for color, balance, and an appreciation for beautiful things. These individuals must also possess impeccable communication skills and problem solving skills that may come their way during their careers.

Costume Design Careers

After graduating from a costume design school, many new graduates will start out as either pattern markers or sketching assistants to fashion designers that have been engaged in the industry for an elongated frame of time. If an individual that obtains one of these degrees does not wish to work in the fashion industry, they are more than obliged to gain employment in different art related fields such as interior design, graphic design and floral design.

In most cases, earnings are based upon experience and skill. Also, the higher degree that an individual obtains from one of these institutions the more money they can expect to make shortly after graduation. There are salaried jobs within this field as well as freelance jobs also.

Expected Salary Information and Projected Career Growth

The projected growth for this industry is one percent. According to the bureau of labor and statistics, by the year 2018 this particular career field will see a one percent growth in the amount of jobs that must be filled by someone that has attended a higher learning institution. However, just because this projected amount of growth is not high for actual fashion designers, there are other fields that students may enter into after obtaining one of these degrees as well.

Students that have completed a course at one of these schools can expect to enter into an extremely lucrative field shortly after graduation. As of 2008, the median annual wages for someone that had attended and graduated from one of these institutions was $61,000. The highest 10% were able to gross $124,000, while the lowest 10% earned around $32,000 per year. Costume design school programs thus combine aesthetic, functional, social and psychological needs and incorporate these with traditional and advanced technology tools for a successful career.
