Entertainment Management Education and Training

Students can expect to be introduced to a variety of concepts that have been pulled from traditional business administration courses and fused with the unique concepts of managing digital media within the industry. In addition to focusing on marketing strategies, managing venues, and learning the ins and outs of contractual agreements, students will also be trained to deal with modern digital rights management (DRM) laws and copyright issues that are unique to the music and film industries.

Graduate students can expect to take core courses in global economics, financial management, leadership and ethics, and managing digital rights and copyrights. Additional classes will involve marketing strategies and promotion, online content delivery systems, and client representation. It is also becoming increasingly common for schools to require their students to take theory courses discussing the impact of the Internet on the industry.

Entertainment Management Careers

Successful graduates can apply for a wide range of jobs inside and outside of the entertainment industry. For example, students can apply for positions in managing social media campaigns, managing talent, creating online ad campaigns, advertising, and managing events.

Since many of the jobs within the industry are highly competitive, some graduates accept jobs in other industries. The marketing and managerial skills that are learned through the MBA program can easily be applied to careers working for the government, nonprofit, charities, and companies that offer a wide range of consumer or business-related products and services.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

Starting salaries for graduates range anywhere from $40,000 to $90,000 depending upon the position that is obtained. Graduates who accept jobs in the private sector can expect to command higher salaries than those who work for non-profit or in the public sector. With experience, the average salary range increases significantly and generally ranges from $60,000 to $135,000 annually, with consulting and managerial jobs occupying the higher end. Most graduates, however, will earn between $80,000 and $95,000 once they progress to mid-level and senior positions.

Jobs within this sector are expected to grow by 24% in the coming years, which is much faster than most other industries. This is due to the increasing demand for workers who understand digital media and rights, while also being highly adept with new technologies, including online content delivery systems.

Since the people who work and apply for jobs within this industry come from a diverse range of backgrounds, new job applicants with a entertainment management MBA can expect to compete against a very large number of job applicants.
