Human Services Education and Training

Most entry level positions require you to have at least a bachelor's degree. For management you would generally need a master's degree and experience. Management positions or positions that involve more advanced case work usually require workers to have a master's degree. There are some positions available in the fields that don't require these degrees, however. However, people with majors in related fields e.g. Sociology and Psychology may also quality for entry-level Social Work jobs.

Clinical and health-related jobs require a Masters in Social Work degree. Jobs in supervision, administration, and training also require an advanced degree. Any Social Worker planning to specialize in a particular area will find a Master's in Social Work (MSW) degree is useful to have.

Human Services Careers

Human services degree programs are designed to address social issues and challenges in the community. Human services careers integrate knowledge of social work, counseling, psychology, public health, and medical administration and health management. Human services workers can specialize in areas such as substance addiction, gerontology, child protection, etc.

Human services careers are technical and professional. These careers in human services cater to family needs and human needs, and social and economic and social systems. Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

Counselors can make between $25,000 and $83,000 while social workers earn between $25,000 to $52,000 a year. With a master's or PhD you can earn more, especially with experience.

Human services is among the fastest growing career fields in the nation. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), human services should experience a 34% job growth over the next several years. The BLS also projects a 22% employment growth in social work and areas related to a human services degree.
