The time taken on each course will also vary, with intensive courses over very short periods, to longer courses up to a year or more.

The program each school offers will vary considerably, though most will follow the same basic foundations. Students can expect to learn the history of hypnotherapy and hypnosis, as well as its laws and ethics. Spirituality may also be taught, whilst focus will also be given to applying the training in certain areas; such as stress relief, birth control, pain and emergency applications.

A career in the field could encompass many areas. Increasingly, services are offered within medical clinics in most states, whilst there also often form part of the services offered in holistic clinics especially. Many physicians will refer patients for treatment, with those suffering from depression and other mental conditions being the most popular candidates.

Because of the duty of care that is required, it is important that any practitioners have a caring and giving attitude, and carry out all treatment professionally and confidentially wherever required. As such, having training in how best to approach troubled patients could be advisable.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

With much success being found with hypnotherapy, it is a field that is growing in popularity. Whilst many people seeking to quit smoking and so forth have often sought the treatment, it is now extending to other conditions. Further than this, many federal agencies are also employing the services of individuals who have completed hypnotherapy training.

Salaries which can hope to be achieved vary dependent on experience and the environment and location worked in. Commonly, a recently qualified hypnotherapist who has undergone sufficient hypnotherapy training would start on $50 to $70 per hour. However, this can rise significantly to an average of $150 an hour after a year or two, whilst increased private practices and growing belief in the treatment could see these earnings rise considerably.
