Although Information Assurance is defined as a measure of confidence, it is often confused with information security which deals with protect information systems. Information assurance training helps those get into a career that allows you to monitor and keep the data in a network and computers safe from virus, hackers, thieves and other problems that are experienced with the electronic age. They are also the ones that comply with the privacy issues and audits as well as recovering the data that has been lost or damaged. Most of these careers require at least a Bachelor's in Information Assurance in order to obtain an entry level position. Many recruiters want and prefer to hire those with a Master of Science in IA or a Master of Science in Information Security and Assurance. Doctorates can also be obtained in this field of study, and these have the greatest chance for employment opportunities.

Information Assurance Training and Education

Classes will include computer science, database systems and digital forensics. There are a number of classes related to the technology field that covers several aspects to computer science that will be needed when they work on the job. Many will obtain certifications while they are finalizing their degree to be job ready when they graduate.

Many professionals also obtain some certification before the begin work, and can include certifications for Ethical Hacker or certification as a system professional. For those that want to specialize in one aspect to this career, the right certification is needed. These certifications are part of a continuing education program to make sure that you are current on technology and regulations, and as needs dictate for the job market.

Information Assurance Careers

When a job is obtained, you can expect to create and maintain databases and system that will keep hackers from compromising it. This often includes anonymous threats, but also those that know the system such as former employees.

This is also the position responsible in keeping the system current and the IA analyst needs to perform system checks and monitoring to endure that the date remains safe if it is compromised in any way. The IA analysts also need to do recovery as the system crashes.

They are also responsible for the organization of security, which can include ensuring that the department complies with the laws and company policies concerning the storage and handling of the data.

Expected Salary and Project Career Growth

For those that can obtain a job with a four-year degree, the mean salary is around $60,000 annually. Those that hold a Master or Doctorate in IA can make on an average of $125,000 or more per year, and are those that obtain the management positions. The salary is based on the location of the job as well as the company size. Those in more urban areas with larger companies can expect to make more money.

The job outlook with information assurance training is expected to remain in demand. This is a career with both private sectors and government positions available, and they currently have a higher demand for these to be filled then people qualified for the positions. With the Homeland Security regulations, this is a career that had longevity as well as many opportunities for advancement.
