In addition, students will also get to learn about how iridology all began from way back in time and how it has evolved over many thousands of years. Iridology is all about studying the iris as well as all of its nerve fibers. Beginning iridology courses involve learning about the reasons why practitioners are interested in this subject and also what its history is. One of the topics taught at such courses is learning to find out how the eye is able to reflect light.

There are also diagnosis iridology training available in which the student will need to learn about iris deformities and things like reflex markings and the constitution of the iris as well as pigmentation in the iris and more. Most iridology courses cover several subjects including visual psychophysics, color vision, ocular physiology, and more.

However, it pays to be familiar with certain principles before you can practice this particular discipline. Among the courses that need to be taken those such as consulting and practice, anatomy of the eye, introduction to iridology and theory of iridology are very important.

Iridology is a basically useful diagnostic tool that is also very specialized and though it still has not been sanctioned by regular medical science, it is still a very interesting discipline. This means that to practice iridology, it would be necessary to combine certification along with training in other alternative/natural specialties. This in turn will also mean that a budding iridologist may have to also pursue a career as a naturopathic doctor.

Iridology Careers

Because iridology is about assessing rather than treating the eye, it is practiced with different kinds of alternative medicine. Some of the openings that are available to those who have successfully completed iridology courses include becoming a homeopathy technician, allergist, acupuncturist and a natural medicine technician.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

Even though in the US, iridology is not officially recognized, regulated or defined (legally), in Europe and in Germany in particular, it is not only recognized but is used by most practitioners of natural medicine. Iridologists generally earn about $75.00 for iris analysis and consultation.

The amount of money that a person that has completed iridology courses can expect to earn will depend on their position as well as the geographical location where they are working. On an average, an iridologist earns according to whether they are practicing along with different forms of alternative medicine. As a beginner naturopath, you can earn between twenty thousand and thirty thousand dollars per annum. With experience, you can earn four to five times that amount, especially if you find work in large and established practices.
