Fashion modeling classes can include teaching how to walk properly on a runway, hair and makeup as well as posing. Each of the classes that you will take will teach you how to effectively wear and display clothing without drawing attention to yourself.

Fashion modeling classes are not necessary in order to get jobs, but they are recommended so that you are more marketable. These teach skills that will be more likely in getting you additional work and may be the decision in getting a job and being passed over. Schools may also offer interviews with agencies, which results in more work.

To learn more about fashion, take a modeling class at fashion modeling schools in your area. Many community colleges and civic groups offer non-credit courses for personal enrichment. Also enroll in courses like Fashion Design. You may also consider taking courses in hair styling, make-up application, and fitness classes as well as nutrition courses. Other courses that might be useful for your career are photography and film.

As you enroll in a professional modeling course keep in mind that the goal of these fashion modeling courses is not necessarily to get students a modeling job bur rather to teach them how look, feel, act, and move more comfortably and confidently.

Fashion Modeling Careers

Upon attending fashion modeling schools models are hired for different assignments for example costume parties like Halloween, department store promotions, malls, delivering singing telegrams, magazines and newspapers. Models also pose for artists, photographers, and customers for the purpose of advertising all kinds of products. Work environments may include: studios, runway fashion shows, outdoors, etc.

Fashion models and get their photographs taken are required to be on set and be able to maintain poses for photographers. They may be required to stand for long lengths time, hold facial expressions and be able to take directions from people on the set.

Runway models are typically are the ones that the fashion shows for designers. They are expected to model the clothing during live shows and be able to handle the pressure of these high paced professional expositions. They have to attend fittings and meet with the designer before the show, and are required to wear what is assigned to them.

Travel is often required as part of the job, and they may have you be anywhere in the world. Typically this is paid for by the client and is a perk that is usually included for those that do photography work, although other types may wish to have you travel for other reasons.

Those that work in stores are required to wear clothing and show them off similar to a runway show. These require you to be able to stand silent for long periods of time and take direction from salespeople in order to sell garments.

Estimated Income and Projected Career Outlook

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the employment of models is expected to grow by 14% between 2010 and 2020. On average, those who are just starting out with a fashion modeling career upon graduation from fashion modeling schools can expect to earn $500 - $5,000 per modeling assignment. Veteran fashion model professionals earn over $10,000. The average reported income is around $15,000 for those that work in a variety of mediums.

The median hourly wage of models was $15.83 in 2010 with a range of $9.53 to $28.86 (BLS). The annual salary earnings for successful fashion models are: Professional Photographic Fashion Model - $500,000 or more annually while Regular Fashion Runway Model earn $30,000 - $60,000 a year.

A typical career is not super stardom, most experience only local levels of exposure upon graduation from fashion modeling schools. The amount that one can earn in this career is extremely varied and can be from nothing to millions of dollars. Area affects the wages that can be earned, and many report higher income in smaller towns doing print ads for local stores versus nationwide magazines.
