What courses are offered at nail technician schools? Nail Technicians and Manicurists are trained in cosmetology. They are specifically trained to work on clients’ hands and feet, giving manicures or pedicures, treatments or nails extensions.

All states require that nail technicians should be licensed this requires a prospective nail technician to attend a cosmetology school. Education and Training

If you would like to work in a nail salon, hotel, or spa, you will need to take additional education courses beyond the licensing process. Most nail technician training takes less than two years to complete, but an apprenticeship can take up to three years. You would take courses in: sanitation and sterilization, bacteriology, reflexology, skin and nail anatomy, blood, nail diseases and disorders, as well as practical coursework such as table setup, manicuring and pedicuring, professional nail drill procedures, airbrushing nail art, hand and foot massage techniques, and artificial nail work.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), projects that the field will grow over the next few years. Manicure and pedicure specialists earn about $24,000 a year. Most professionals earn an hourly wage or salary that also has tips. Independent nail techs depend on repeat business and successful independent manicure technicians may earn salaries of over $50,000 per year. Your salary can also be quite high in exclusive spas and salons.
