Reiki training involves learning the Japanese method of healing and stress release. Where energy flow is experienced from the hand of the practitioner to the rest of the human body. The main objective being to align energy going through the body to promote health and decrease stress levels. This involves a subtle kind of spiritual healing. Reiki started in Japan, but it is not associated with any kind of religion. If you are practicing reiki, it is important to live in peace and harmony with others as these are some of its fundamental concepts. It takes an average of three years to complete a reiki program and achieve a master status. Training can be undertaken through formal education in colleges or universities, through home based training or apprenticeship by a reiki master. During the training programs, students are given projects to complete by practicing on themselves or others. This enables students to gain hands on experience. These practical sessions are evaluated by tutors and recommendations made.

Reiki Education and Training

Training is usually divided into three levels, where at each level students are initiated through the use of attunements. Reiki is usually learned through the normal sense, but is transferred to the student during a reiki class by the reiki master.

In the first level, you learn how to administer treatment to oneself or another party. In the second level, you learn about the various symbols which are used during treatment processes and remote healing methods. In the third level, you learn to be a reiki master.

In traditional schools, students learn alongside a reiki master, where the master, through attunements activates energy centers in the student. Subsequently, allowing universal energy to flow through the student. Higher learning institutions provide certificate courses and degree programs. Home based methods include the use of audio, CDs, DVDs, books and practical attunements.

Courses you will be expected to undertake when being trained in reiki include kinesiology, psychology, anatomy, self healing techniques, meditation, distance healing and hand positions. Certificates are achieved as the student moves from one level to another level. You will receive a certificate from your school or reiki master. Most governments are increasingly starting to require licensing before one can practice, but generally in most regions, it is not must to have a license.

Reiki Careers

Most practitioners view reiki more as a part of a lifestyle rather than a career. Most practitioners practice on a part time basis or incorporate massage therapy. It involves encouraging flow of energy through hand placement on the fully clothed body of the client, which usually results in feelings of sleepiness, warmth and refreshment for the patient.

The study of reiki has become quite popular in the Western world and it is recommended to help individuals deal with mental and physical conditions. With more people turning to reiki, it will continue being a popular healing method, meaning that more qualified practitioners would be in high demand.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

The salary earned by a practitioner depends on the level of experience, training and demand in their locality. Reiki practitioners make an average of $18,000 per year while reiki masters make at least $50,000 per year. Reiki masters also have an additional advantage in that they can earn more income through lecturing and offering reiki training.
