The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the wages are usually higher in four and five star restaurants and hotels. The middle 50% earned between $11.00 and $21.00 an hour. The highest 10% earned over $27.00 an hour. The middle 50% of restaurant managers earn $31,000 to $52,000. Top earning managers make around $70,000.

The job market for chefs, cooks, food preparation workers, and other professionals with restaurant management training is expected to be stable although it is more competitive for top kitchens of high-end restaurants. The number of higher-skilled chefs and cooks working in full-service restaurants - those that offer table service and more varied menus - is expected to increase about as fast as the national average.
