What does Spa therapy training entail? When you study for a degree or diploma in spa and resort therapy you are preparing for an exciting career in day spas, resorts, hotels and cruise ships.

You could also start your own private business. Four and five star hotels and resorts offer spa services to their visitors. These days spas have become very popular for when people go on holiday, vacation, or when business travelers simply want to relax at the end of a long hard day.

Education and Training

As a student in a Spa & Resort Therapy degree or diploma course, you taken courses in a wide range of spa techniques for example wraps, clay application, foot reflexology, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, and heated stone massage. You also learn more about:

• Body wraps for detoxification, hydration and weight loss
• Exfoliating salt glows using sea salts, oils and aromatic ingredients
• Body scrubs using ground coffee grounds, grape seeds etc
• Mud baths and other therapeutic baths

Completion of a training program will give you hands-on experiences in skin care and other health-related topics. Students with spa therapy training are eligible to become Licensed Estheticians and Certified Massage Therapists upon completion of the program. Jobs are available in massage clinics, hospitals, resorts, health spas and health clubs, hotels, resorts, cruise ships and other similar settings.

As a Spa Therapy technician, you will get hands-on experience in skin care and other health-related topics. You may also be eligible to become a Licensed Estheticians and Certified Massage Therapist upon completion of the program.

Expected Income

In a year or less you could be working in the massage industry making good income. Depending on whether you work full time or part time and where you are working, you can make anywhere from $10,000 to $60,000 a year, according to International Spa Association (ISPA).

Projected Career Growth

Related to massage therapy, spa and resort therapy is one of the fastest growing health care fields in the country. Since 2000, the number of luxury spas in resorts and hotels has more than doubled, making this career lucrative and promising.
