According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the employment of statisticians is expected to grow 13% between 2008 and 2018. The BLS also reports that in the bottom 10% of statisticians earned an annual wage of $39,740 a year while the highest 10 percent earned more than $117,190.

The BLS also reports that the median annual income of those with a statistics degree was $72,610 in 2008. The middle 50% earned between $52,730 and $95,170. The average annual salary for statisticians in the Federal Government was $92,322 in 2009, while mathematical statisticians averaged $107,015.

According to the BLS statisticians held about 22,600 jobs in 2008. For those with a statistics degree, about 20% of jobs were in the Federal Government including Departments of Commerce, Agriculture, and Health and Human Services. Another 10% were in state and local governments while the rest work in private industry including scientific research, development services, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing.
