Veterinary School Degree Programs

If you are looking for a good online veterinary school, it means that you probably love working with animals! Veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and groomers foster important relationships with their owners.

Typical veterinary careers are available in veterinary hospitals, clinics, zoos, and dog grooming salons. You would likely start off as as veterinary assistant. Learn more about program requirements for the Diploma in Veterinary Assistant. In the Veterinary Assistant Training Program at the Animal Behavior College you will learn to work with a variety of animals and their people. Both the animal care providers and Veterinary Assistant are responsible for training, bathing, grooming, and providing companionship to animals. They also ensure that nutritional needs and hygienic living arrangements are provided. Veterinary medicine colleges and veterinary courses and training will prepare you to do all this in the training program. Another veterinary program option is that offered by Penn Foster.

Veterinary School Education and Training

Veterinary courses may include classes in mathematics, animal biology (zoology), organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, genetics physics, zoology, and biology. Many veterinary colleges require students to complete an internship where technologists and technicians work as trainees in routine positions under the direct supervision of veterinarians. Many states also require students to acquire a state license. Licensing procedures vary by state, but most states require graduating students to take a board exam. There are two levels of education and training for entry into a veterinary career: 2-years associate degree program for veterinary technicians and a 4-year program for veterinary technologists.

Veterinary Careers

The veterinary profession deals mainly with providing care and treatment for animals, pets and livestock, where they diagnose and treat animals with health issues. Some veterinarians choose to conduct animal research in clinics or laboratories. The tasks for veterinarians include examining animals, administering vaccinations and treatments, treating wounds and providing medications. Many veterinarians work in private practice working mostly with small animals.

Veterinary technologists are also known as vet techs or veterinary technicians. They assist veterinarians by performing routine tasks like x-rays, medical tests, urinalysis, animal blood work, dental cleaning, etc.

Expected Salary and Projected Career Growth

The mean annual salary of veterinary technicians across the United States is about $27,000, with the top ten percentile earning an average about $38,000. Hourly wages are estimated to be about $12 to $15. To prepare for your career, request additional information from the veterinary school programs highlighted here.
